The title of this post is cryptic but the title I wanted to use would not fit in the space provided and because I am still learning to build a website I do not know how to expand the space.

The true title is: The descendants of Jacob Ragusin and Margarita Orlic: The Ragusin Family in Punat, Croatia.

This post will provide a descendant list for Jacob Ragusin and Margarita Orlic. Jacob moved to Punat from Veli Losinj, Croatia as a young man, and married Margarita Orlic in 1762. All persons with the surname Ragusin in Punat are descendants of Jacob and Margarita. Due to too many daughters and many sons and grandsons dying young the Ragusin name is only carried by the only son of Jacob’s and Margarita’s youngest son. Jacob Ragusin was the only son of John Nicolas who was the youngest son of Jacob and Margarita. Jacob the grandson had five sons and two daughters who had children. I have identified DNA matches to descendants of several of these children.

This post will provide the text of the descendant list in this post. I will also provide a PDF for anyone who wishes to download the results of my research. I use Roots Magic as my family tree program. After loading all the data, I select Jacob Ragusin and wife Margarita Orlic, and then choose descendants list. The rest is automatic. There are unfortunately some limitations and this is still a work in progress.

The text in this post is in black and white, but the PDF is colored code. Each of the five children of Jacob and Margarita were given a different color. All of that child’s descendants are in that same color–usually. If a descendant of one child of Jacob and Margarita married a descendant of another child of Jacob and Margarita, that couple and their descendants would be displayed in the color of the older of the two children of Jacob and Margarita.

To not knowingly display living people I had to set the number of displayed generations. A consequence of this is that some dead people are left off. For instance, so as not to display my siblings–all of whom are living–the generational setting also removed my mother who is deceased. In some cases I have two or more generations of living cousins who are not displayed.

The birth records after 1870 for Punat were not microfilmed. In addition, marriage and death records after 1900 were not microfilmed. These facts and any potential movement from town to town, limit how many generations I can find for those families that stayed in Croatia. The only descendant I have conclusively identified as immigrating to the U.S. is my grandfather, but I am working on several of his cousins now.
