My Big Y 700 Y-DNA tested has been completed. The Y chromosome has been analyzed and I have the results. Actually they are posted on the Family Tree DNA website. My terminal Single Nucleotide Polymorphism (SNP) is R-PH3782.
I have a “match” with a man from Hungary. We have 30 differences out of 1.3 million SNP’s and 14 differences out of 552 STR’s (Single Tandem Repeats). The Slavs that moved into what is now Croatia were the White (western) Croats as opposed to the Red (eastern) Croats. [NOTE: A similar distinction is made with the White Rus (Russians) and the Red Rus. Belarus (Slavic for White Russia) is to the west of Russia (technically Red Russia–nothing to do with politics just historic terminology).] Over 1000 years ago the White Croats lived in an area including parts of what are now the modern countries of Germany, Poland, Austria, Czechia, Slovakia, and Hungary. All my Y-DNA matches come from this area.
I am still working on this…

Dear Mr Ragusin,
I came across your very interesting blog in search of possible matches to a FTDNA kit I manage. On page 30 of the following document you will find the testament of Antun Ragužinić from Veli Lošinj dated 15 Octobre 1579.

This person might be your earliest known paternal ancestor. Sorry for bothering you if this is already known to you.
Best regards,
E.M.

I cannot thank you enough. I have read references to Anton’s will, but did not know how to find it. Yes, I believe he is my ancestor. Perhaps he is the first Ragusin in Veli Losinj. Now I have to translate this document and the following one as well. In the testament (starting page 30) Anton appears to be alive. In the next entry (starting page 32) Antona Raguzinica is deceased (“pokoinoga”) and the children are mentioned. That pushes my knowledge of genealogical Croatian at this time.
You mentioned a FTDNA kit you manage. Am I related to this person? I have tested with FTDNA and other companies as well.
Another document I need (again I am not sure how to search for it) is a 1299 reference from Venice to a Ragusin who is described as a noble from Dubrovnik.
Thank you so very much. Please stay in touch if you wish.
Tom.
Tom, I sent you an email to the email address you left with FTDNA. E.M.
